Indictment Charges Megaupload Site With Piracy

Indictment Charges Megaupload Site With Piracy

(1) I've been surprised that the file-sharing sites have survived this long in broad daylight. This is obviously big business. I can name at least four file-sharing sites which rank among the top 250 sites on the internet, and that's without researching the issue.

(2) I'm flabbergasted that these particular guys tried to operate not only from the USA, but within a stone's throw of most of the federal agencies! I'd expect a business like this to have its servers in one of the many countries that like to give the USA fits, or from one of the profiteering puppet kingdoms. For example, SlySoft, the company that broke the Blu-Ray encryption almost immediately, and continues to break every modification of that protocol, is located on some independent Caribbean islands. Many gambling sites have or had similar locations.

I imagine the Feds will continue to pursue the other file-sharing sites if they are within reach. Some other moves are probably coming soon. I know of at least one other major file-sharing site which is located in the States (in Washington State).
