It's no longer Kirk vs Picard. It's Charlie vs Ashton

Bad comparison on my part. Even though Captain Kirk was the single greatest human being in the history of the human race, except of course for the actor who plays him, we Kirk fans could still appreciate Captain Picard's thoughtful, compassionate, wise approach to management. Although we love cowboys and wildcatters, we understand why people would prefer the corporate style, and we think that it's better for Picard to have his own identity and be a Grade A Picard rather than a bad Kirk clone.

On the other hand, I haven't really seen anybody with a passionate defense of Kutcher, and the Charlie fans just think that Ashton has no value of any kind.

Y'know, I have never seen the show with Charlie, but I 'm still on Team Charlie by default. He couldn't have been any worse than Kutcher. I have seen some recent episodes, and it's just not good. Either the writers don't know what to do with Kutcher, or Kutcher doesn't know what to do with the material, or both. It's only funny when the storyline centers on Cryer or the kid.
