Talk about rollin' along like ol' man river. Mike Wallace was older than my parents, who lived long lives and passed away long ago. He was already a middle aged man when I was in elementary school. Although I rarely saw him on TV, I often read about him in my MAD magazines, which invariably caricatured him browbeating somebody over some trivial matter on his NY-based interview program, Night Beat, while dangling an ubiquitous cigarette in one hand. In addition to smoking during his interviews, Wallace frequently did cigarette commercials. For a guy so long associated with the tobacco industry, he obviously had a pretty healthy set of lungs to live so long.
