NCAA College Football BCS Standings Week 10

NCAA College Football BCS Standings Week 10
Although Alabama is a runaway #1 in the human polls, the computers are not so impressed. Three of the six computer systems pick KSU, two pick Notre Dame, and the last one picks 'Bama.

It is worthwhile noting that while Sagarin's politically correct system ranks Alabama seventh, his "predictor" system, which is his most accurate, identifies Alabama as #1 by a very wide margin - a full touchdown better than the next-best team, and two touchdowns better than the team ranked #7. That's dominant!

(For reference, the predictor takes the winning margin into account, while the custom-designed BCS system considers only who won and the strength of the competition.)

That's not the biggest difference between the two systems. The predictor ranks FSU #8, but the system preferred by the BCS authorities places the Seminoles #33. Actually, none of the computer methods give the Seminoles any respect. Their average rank is #23 in the six computer systems. (It's because they have an extremely easy schedule compared to similar big-time teams. Strength of schedule is an important factor in the weighted rating.) On the other hand, FSU places #7 in both human polls!

Once again the Big Ten has no team in the Top 25.
