The Top 50 Best Picture Nominees That Lost The Oscar

Not much of a list, but it'll get you thinking.

1. Some of these films lost the Oscar because they kinda sucked. Sideways, for example, was a listless, flavor-of-the-month film that never should have been nominated in the first place. It was not among the top twenty films that year. Meanwhile, the best picture of that year, possibly of the millennium, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, wasn't even nominated.

2. While some of the most egregious of the Academy's screw-ups are not even on the list. Raiders of the Lost Ark (95% positive reviews. #27 of all time at IMDb) probably should be #2 on the list behind Citizen Kane, but didn't even make the top 50!
