New Movies In Theaters June 28th - Rotten Tomatoes
This week represents kind of a lull in the summer blockbuster onslaught. There are two new films in wide release (about 3200 theaters each), but neither is expected to be a barn-burner.

White House Down is a PG-13 action thriller which is exactly what it sounds like. It was directed by Roland Emmerich, who kinda specializes in destroying the White House. (He also did Independence Day.) 50% positive reviews.

The Heat is an R-rated "mismatched buddy cop" film, with the only new hook being that the cops are both female (Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy). The reasons for the R rating do not include nudity, although you probably wouldn't want to see those two nekkid anyway. Sandy is still gorgeous, but is headed for 50 years, while McCarthy is headed for 50 stone. (Did you know that she turns 43 in August? I thought she was much younger.) 67% positive reviews.

White House Down, if it is as successful as predicted, will battle Monsters University for the #1 spot with a gross in the low $40s. The Heat should be in third place, not far behind the top two.
