She would have been 85 next week. Her singing career started in the late 40s, and she cut a record as far back as 1950, but she was still singing in 2009 after some sixty years in the business! She was probably most famous as part of a long-lived singing duo with her husband, so the names Steve and Eydie are linked forever in the minds of baby boomers. Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme were a true product of the post-war golden age of TV. They met on Steve Allen's show, were married in Vegas, and seemed to be ubiquitous on variety shows in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Steve is still alive, and was still performing last time I thought about him. (He was quite a bit younger than Eydie.)
