Duck Dynasty Backlash Backlash at Cracker Barrel

"Cracker Barrel put out notice they were canning the Duck Dynasty licensed merch in their country marts because Phil Robertson thinks Sodomites aren’t going to heaven. I guess they made this decision without anybody pointing out that their store is called ‘Cracker’ and it’s based heavily in the South. So they got a shit ton of backlash on their backlash and were forced to wet themselves in poorly worded apologies:"

"When we made the decision to remove and evaluate certain Duck Dynasty items, we offended many of our loyal customers. Our intent was to avoid offending, but that’s just what we’ve done. You flat out told us we were wrong. We listened. Cracker Barrel’s mission is pleasing people. We operate within the ideals of fairness, mutual respect and equal treatment of all people. These ideals are the core of our corporate culture."

I'm lost. My takeaway so far is that people who eat deep fried meat saturated in white gravy do not like homosexuality. This leads to one of two logical actions:

Either:

1. Make gay people eat chicken fried steak, as it will probably make them straight.

Or:

2. Ban chicken fried steak and watch the tolerance grow!

All kidding aside, the Duck Dynasty situation has really exposed the fact that "reality" TV is not real at all. If it were real, would anyone be surprised that a deeply conservative, deeply religious, gun-loving guy who grew up in poverty in Louisiana has old-fashioned ideas about racial and gender politics? Moreover, everyone already should have known Robertson's positions on homosexuality because he has publicly demeaned gays in the past - and in much harsher language. Per Wikipedia: "In 2010, Robertson expressed his views about homosexuality at a dinner speech at Berean Bible Church. In the speech, Robertson remarked 'They (homosexuals) committed indecent acts with one another,' and 'they received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion,' adding 'They're full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant God haters. They are heartless. They are faithless. They are senseless. They are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil.'"
