Football Championship Subdivision tournament

Football Championship Subdivision tournament
My alma mater is in the hunt, but I don't really care about this tournament. I'll probably forget about it by tomorrow. I am linking to it to make a point. The rinky-dink FCS division has already established a 24-team post-season tournament. Why can't the big teams pull this off?

It means that the TV networks could have meaningful games to televise from the last week of November until the post-New Year's weekend, or one week less if the number of teams were to be limited to 16. The invitees could be five major conference champs (ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC - I left the AAC off for a reason) plus the top 11 remaining teams in the ranking system. Or you could just take the top sixteen and say, "If every SEC team makes it, so be it." As of today, this year's SEC would qualify five teams on that basis.

By the way, back to the topic of the FCS tournament just for a moment, undefeated North Dakota State is a heavy favorite. Sagarin ranks North Dakota State #22 in the nation - among all teams, including the big boys. That's astounding for an FCS team. They are so strong that they have a win against another of Sagarin's top 30 teams, a feat never achieved by Johnny Football all year. (Manziel was 0-4 against teams currently in the top 30.)
