What a topsy-turvy night! Just about every major team played. #1 Arizona lost and #2 Syracuse needed overtime to pull their game out. Meanwhile, numbers 6, 7 and 8 all lost.
Syracuse and Wichita State remain undefeated.
Wichita has not played a ranked team, and has none on their future schedule, so they may coast all the way to the NCAA tournament undefeated. Despite playing that weak schedule, they could eventually be #1 because Syracuse will have to play good ball to match Wichita win-for-win. They have three tough road games against their top three conference rivals, including the Duke Blue Devils, whom the Orangemen barely beat tonight at home.
Wichita State is only ranked 21st in Sagarin's "Predictor" model, which makes their high ranking sound sort of unjust until you realize that Syracuse is only rated #18 by that same method! Kansas, for example, is rated much higher than either of those teams, despite four losses, because they play the hardest schedule in the nation (they've played 7 of Sagarin's current top 25). Wichita State, in contrast, has played the 125th hardest schedule, including only one of the current Sagarin Top 25 - and that one barely sneaking in there in 25th place!
