Ah, the gray lady!
What the NY Times calls a "close vote," I would call a landslide. According to BBC, the tally is 55.3-44.7. The last American President to win by 10 points or more was The Gipper in 1984. Clinton beat Dole by 8 1/2 points, and nobody called that a "close vote," least of all the NY Times. Bush the Elder beat Dukakis by 7.7 points, and that was considered a curb-stomping.
Update: Well, I doubt that NYT headline writers read Other Crap, but they did change the online headline to "Scotland Rejects Independence From United Kingdom." I guess it was too much to expect them to change it to "Scotland Rejects Independence From United Kingdom More Convincingly Than U.S. Voters Rejected Dukakis."
Update: Alex Salmond today said he would be standing down as Scotland's First Minister and Scottish National Party leader. He'll continue to serve in the Scottish Parliament.
