It was pretty crazy out there:
#2 Oregon lost to unranked (but undefeated) Arizona on Thursday. The big winners:
#3 Alabama lost to #11, undefeated Ole Miss
#4 Oklahoma lost to #25, undefeated TCU
#6 Texas A&M lost to #12, undefeated Mississippi State
#8 UCLA lost to unranked Utah.
#14 Stanford lost to #9, undefeated Notre Dame
#17 Wisconsin was upset by unranked Northwestern
#18 BYU was upset by unranked Utah State
#19 Nebraska lost to #10 Michigan State
Arizona will climb into the top 25 on the basis of an undefeated record and a big win over Oregon. All the ranked teams that defeated other ranked teams will soar, especially TCU.SIDEBAR #1: Sagarin's computer ranking system had Alabama, Oklahoma and Oregon ranked 1-2-3 respectively. All three lost!
Auburn will presumably rise from #5 all the way to #2
Baylor, after crushing the Texas Longhorns, will presumably rise from #7 to #3.
Former #9 Notre Dame may be the new #4
#5 seems to be up for grabs between Michigan State, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
SIDEBAR #2: Those same three teams received first place votes in the two major polls. There was only one other team to receive them: Florida State. It's not inconceivable that FSU will be the unanimous choice this week. Whether they can claim that honor or not, it's obvious that they are now alone at the pinnacle. The presumed new #2, Auburn, will be lucky to finish the season with two losses.
