Highlights:
* Ben Roethlisberger passed for 522 yards, 6 TDS, 40 for 49. That yardage total is the fourth-highest single game in NFL history, and it makes Roethlisberger the only QB in history with two 500-yard games. (Matt Schaub has a 527 and a near-miss 497, Matthew Stafford has a 520 and a 488, Boomer Esiason had a 522 and a 490.) The single-game record is 554 yards, which was set by Norm Van Brocklin in 1951 and has held up all these years. By the way, Joe Namath once accumulated 496 passing yards in a game with only 15 completions. (He did that against the Colts and Johnny Unitas. Namath was truly their nemesis!)
* The Detroit Lions won a game because of a penalty - on them! They missed a field goal with 4 seconds on the clock, but they were called for delay-of-game, and got to try again. (That particular penalty can't be declined, and the clock was stopped because of what happened on the previous play.) I can't recall any previous examples of a team winning a game solely because of a penalty against them.
* The Pats scored 51.
* The pathetic Raiders remained winless.
* The pretty-much-just-as-pathetic Jets turned the ball over 6 times. Geno Smith threw eight passes. He completed two to his own teammates and three to the Bills - all in the first quarter. Vick came in after about ten minutes and played the rest of the game - and he contributed two lost fumbles and another pick! (Vick actually fumbled four times, but the Jets recovered two of them.) Is Tebow still standing by the phone? Maybe they can trade for Manziel, who seems to have plenty of free time.
