Daily Box Office for Friday, May 29, 2015 - Box Office Mojo

The Rock-battles-disaster picture, San Andreas (49% positive reviews, PG-13, 3777 theaters), had an excellent Friday, grossing $18M. Early estimates place it even higher on Saturday. That places it well ahead of everyone's forecasts. It should finish around $50M, compared to estimates in the mid 30s.

Cameron Crowe's PG-13 rom-com, Aloha, took in $3.6 million in 2815 theaters, which is just about what analysts had forecast. That film is fighting some bad advance buzz and a mere 17% positive reviews. Some of the negative reviews were harsh, like this one: "Aloha is the new Gigli. It's got a great cast, comes from a respected filmmaker, and was clearly subjected to so much re-editing that you can scarcely even tell what the point was supposed to be."
