No Kids Or Minorities: 5 Realities Of A City For Old People | Cracked.com

No Kids Or Minorities: 5 Realities Of A City For Old People | Cracked.com

These monstrous new communities for retirees kind of create an alternate version of America with no young men and no minorities (to speak of). (In other words, nobody for them to be afraid of.) It makes economic sense in a lot of ways, because they have virtually no property taxes (no schools), and they need very small police departments because criminal activity is negligible. My only problem with these places is that there's nobody to talk to except old, white Republicans. I find this impossible, even though I am an old white person.

In Arizona, Sun City has 38,000 residents, and Sun City West 24,000, but those are mere shanty towns compared to The Villages in Florida, which now boasts (it is a singular noun) a population of 114,000. (The number was a mere 8,000 in the year 2000, 51,000 in the year 2010). It has 39 golf courses and at least 120 pickleball courts at last count (it is increasing constantly). At the rate that community is growing, people will soon be saying, "Orlando? That's near The Villages."
