NFL Football Schedule - Next Week

NFL Football Schedule - Next Week

Oddity - the eight teams left are the eight division champions. All four wild card teams lost, even the Raiders, who were 12-4 and lost to the 9-7 Texans. (Despite that disparity, the Texans were favored by 3.5.)

Here's the current line for the next round, as of 11:30 PM Sunday EST:

The Falcons are favored by 4 to 4.5 at home.

The Cowboys are favored by 4 at home.

The Chiefs are favored by 1-1.5 at home.

The Patriots are favored by a shitload at home. If you want to bet the Texans, you can currently get as many as 17 (at the MGM Mirage sportsbook).

Excerpts from the reader comments:

"Last year, all four wildcard teams won the wildcard games, this year all four wild card teams lost the wildcard games. However, three of the four teams that won wildcard games last year, won wildcard games this year (Seattle, Green Bay and Pittsburgh.) Kansas City won last year, Houston this year.

Six of the eight teams remaining made the playoffs last year and five of the eight teams made it to this round last year (all except Dallas, Atlanta and Denver.)

Houston has no chance to get to the Superbowl I don't think, but when was the last time the host of the Superbowl also played in it? If Houston did make the Superbowl due to injuries to the quarterbacks of the teams they're playing, they'd either be a team of destiny or Jeff Gillooly would be on their side."

  1. More parallels (to go along with the parallels I noticed for the teams making the playoffs) and other data points.

As an aside, isn't there also a famous artist (painter or something) named Gillooly?
