'Blade Runner 2049' Struggles to $31.5 Million Opening Weekend
"The dystopian sequel, arriving 35 years after the original, crash landed over its three-day opening, falling well below even the most modest of expectations."
(If you'll recall, the original was also a box office dud. It grossed only $6 million in its opening weekend. It opened in second place, dropped to fourth, then dropped to eighth.)
I went to it with a woman who never saw the original. She found it slow and depressing. No post-cinema sex for me!
The market research kinda indicates that I should have seen that coming:
"The audience skewed heavily male, playing to an audience that was 71% male vs. 29% female, of which 63% of the total audience was over the age of 35."
In other words, it's a movie for old white guys who admire the original.
Sigh.
In case you missed my comments on the movie itself, and assuming you're interested, they were buried inside a thread.
