Cambridge students warned Shakespeare plays may distress them

"Cambridge is the latest of universities to issue trigger warnings to students. The University of Glasgow alerted theology students that they may see distressing images of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ."

My trigger warning: when you go to the Roy Rogers Museum, be aware that there is a stuffed horse.

  1. A more sensible warning to Theology students might be a summary of available jobs for Theology graduates.

  2. Well, I'm forever saying "I'm no theologian," so maybe I need an intern.

  3. When you're talking about a discipline that actually discusses Anselm's ontological proof as anything other than bad bar room joke, expertise isn't really a major qualification. You could save money by adopting a small dog as a theology intern.

    New joke.

Maybe Paul's well known lack of any quotes or details from the Gospels in his epistles is because the Corinthians were nuts about needing spoiler warnings.

(Spoiler Alert. Jesus dies, but then they brought him back after it was revealed that the entire 9th season was a dream by Victoria Principal.)

  4. Oh, those Corinthians. They were so hyper-sensitive.

They did, however, have some nice columns.

  5. By the way, they may not have been Theology majors. I was certainly not a Theology major, but took two theology courses as an undergrad (Comparative Theology Survey and Biblical Exegesis) and found them both worth my time. Having noted that, I have to admit it's fundamentally irrelevant, given that English Literature majors are not that marketable either.

  6. True enough, given that the largest consumers of academic theology (as opposed to the stuff in the Bible Colleges) and employers of theology degree holders, are undergraduate theology students taking a course for humanities requirements.

But the joke still works. (As does the utter lunacy of warning theology students they may be exposed to crucifixion art.)
