NCAAF College Football Scores - Week 14
Wisconsin's loss means that no major conference team is undefeated this year.
It seems clear that three of the teams in the playoff will be Oklahoma, Georgia and Clemson. I think Ohio State will get the fourth spot despite its two losses, but 11-1 Alabama will have its advocates.
Sagarin's computer ratings place BOTH Alabama and Ohio State in the top four, excluding Oklahoma from the elite list. I feel the same way. I'd go with exactly the same four that Sagarin identifies. ESPN's FPI rating goes so far as to place Alabama and OSU first and second in the nation, dropping Oklahoma all the way to #7. Oh, well. There are five teams to fit into four slots - somebody will be disappointed.
UCF did finish undefeated. They won't be in the playoff, but they should get a really good New Year's bowl game, like the Peach Bowl against Auburn. It'll be interesting to see them take on a major conference powerhouse. Apart from those two, the other teams in the New Year's Six will probably be Wisconsin, USC, Miami, Washington, Penn State and either Ohio State or Alabama, depending on which one misses the playoff.
The final score in UCF/Memphis was 62-55 in double OT. I guess the American Conference is perfect for those of you who think the Big 12 plays way too much defense. Each team exceeded 700 yards of offense from scrimmage. Each QB passed for at least 470 yards. Counting kick return yardage, Memphis had 900 yards of offense and lost! UCF has to feel mighty fortunate to have won because they not only allowed 900 yards of offense, but they also turned the ball over four times.
Reader's comment: UCF also lost their head coach and probably much of his staff. Scott Frost is headed home to Nebraska to hopefully return that team to its former glory.
