Loyola does it again!
Everybody loves these guys and their elderly mascot. After three narrow escapes, they really got rolling this time. At one point they were ahead 61-38. Kansas State eventually narrowed the gap to 11, but by that time there was only a minute left to play, and Loyola scored the last five points to close it out. Next up: Michigan, which defeated Florida State.
Did anyone know their nickname a week ago? I did not. They are the Ramblers.
They are an 11th seed.
They are in the Final Four.
No lower-seeded team has ever made it to the pas de quatre, although three other eleventh seeds have made it. Every single one of them lost in the semi-final game. No team from the bottom half of the brackets (seeded ninth or worse) has ever made it to the final game, but three teams have made it from an eighth seed. Only one of them won the game: Villanova in 1985.
Tomorrow's odds: Duke by 3 over Kansas, Villanova by 6.5 over Texas Tech. (Kansas is a #1 seed, but they are betting underdogs.)
