The Bourne Ultimatum, 3500 theaters, 92% positive reviews.Underdog, 2800 theaters, no reviews, but the preview galleries look awful. We're talkin' Superbabies bad or Son of the Mask bad.
Apparently Underdog will not be the worst PG movie this week, hard as that may be to fathom. Bratz will be in 1700 theaters, and has garnered 0% positive reviews, but is a must-see for those of you who have been waiting for a film based on a line of fashion dolls. The reviewers have used such phrases as as "almost complete incoherence," "offensive," and "mind-numbingly vapid" to describe the movie. They have called Jon Voight's participation as Principal Dimly "shameless," "bottoming-out," "sorry," and "embarrassing." And those were the positives! On the other hand, The Village Voice didn't like it, so it might not be that bad!
Hot Rod, 2500 theaters, 36% positive reviews. It may not be so bad because you would not expect an ultra-lowbrow comedy to score much higher. Ace Ventura, the Citizen Kane of talking-butt films, scores only 49%.
El Cantante, which will appear in 600 theaters, is currently at 29% positive reviews.
