ROTTEN TOMATOES: Movies Opening This Week

  • Shrek Forever After: 50% positive reviews.

"This fourth installment in the popular animated franchise demonstrates it may finally be time to let Shrek and Fiona live happily ever after." Hollywood Reporter

"Whether or not Shrek has outlived his usefulness as a profit center, it's clear that time and technology have passed him by." Variety

"This fourth and allegedly final installment in the series is lifeless, joyless and woefully devoid of the upbeat energy that distinguished the earlier movies." Associated Press

  • MacGruber: 89% positive reviews ... but no positive reviews from a top critic yet!! The high overall score could be the result of the marketers having sent screeners to hand-picked critics. One comment seemed to sum the film up well: "An unending string of easy scatological jokes which it executes really, really well."

MacGruber's biggest box office problem is that it is an R-rated film designed to appeal to viewers who aren't old enough to get in to see it. I guess it is probably destined for greater success in the aftermarket than it will achieve in theaters.
