There was a stock market panic that year. You've heard the slogan "a dime a dozen," I suppose. That was the price of eggs then.

But a Colt Peacemaker would set you back seventeen bucks, enough to buy more than 2000 eggs. (On the average, grade A large eggs cost about 17 cents apiece in today's USA.)

That seventeen bucks is equivalent to about $400 today - about the same price you would pay for a modern replica!
