TCU made a statement.

TCU had a statement to make.

You know the story. After the second-last week of the season, they were rated 3rd in the nation. They won their final game 55-3, whereupon they were confusingly dismissed to 6th place and a consolation bowl so insignificant that the best color commentator the network could come up with was Tim Tebow, presumably because every ex-jock who can speak fluent English was assigned elsewhere.

Anyway ... so the Horned Frogs thought maybe they'd show they could have been national champs by destroying a powerhouse from the mighty SEC, the 9th-ranked team in the nation, 42-3. The hapless opponent was Ole Miss, a team that beat top-ranked Alabama.

Oh, did I mention that the TCU offense scored those 42 points against the nation's #1 defense?

And the TCU defense was even better than their offense!

A statement, you say? Mission accomplished.

Reader comment:

In a span of about 30 hours, Louisiana State lost to a not particularly impressive Notre Dame, Ole Miss got thumped by TCU, and Mississippi State was easily handled by Georgia Tech. Ya think the SEC may have been a little overrated back in late October when it had 4 teams in the AP Top 5?
