NCAAF College Football Scores - week 12

Apparently week twelve is officially "Play a Patsy, Protect the Ranking, and Rest the Regulars Week."

#1 Alabama, #2 Clemson and #6 Auburn all played extraordinarily weak opponents, winning 56-0, 61-3 and 42-14 respectively. Sagarin's computer rankings had favored Alabama by 47, Clemson by 53, Auburn by 47. (What happened to Auburn? I didn't study the box, but they won by a mere 28. Maybe they gave the football players the week off and fielded the chess team.)

Unranked Florida State went those three teams one better in the search for a weak opponent by playing hapless Delaware State. There are 254 teams playing division one football, and Delaware State is rated 247th by Sagarin. Nice! FSU scored 56 in the first half before taking pity on DSU and giving everyone a chance to play. The Seminoles let eight different rushers carry the ball, while three different passers tossed to nine different receivers. And even those third-stringers outscored Delaware State 21-0 in the second half, for a final score of 77-6. Sagarin had FSU as 53-point favorites and they easily covered that spread.

#4 Oklahoma played a conference team, but still won big, 41-3. (The conference team was Kansas, the weak sister of the Big 12. Sagarin favored Oklahoma by 47.)

#5 Wisconsin had the best win among the top five, with a 24-10 victory over Michigan, which was in the top 25 and had been rated as high as #7 earlier in the year.

#3 Miami struggled against Virginia in the first half, entering the locker room with a 21-14 deficit. They stormed back with 30 in the second half.

The highest-ranked team to lose was #13 Oklahoma State, which suffered a 45-40 loss to Kansas State.
