March Madness, round of 64, day 1
Big surprise: Buffalo (13 seed) not only beat Arizona (4 seed), they slaughtered 'em (89-68). 90% of the entrants in the ESPN bracket contest picked Arizona in that game. In fact, 5% of the contestants picked Arizona to win the whole magilla! Arizona was 21st in the nation in BPI, 15th in the polls. Buffalo's BPI was 79th in the nation, indicating that they barely snuck into the tournament at all, and would not have made it had they not won the Mid-American conference tournament.
Except for an 8-9 game, the only other upset was (6) Miami's loss to (11) Loyola of Chicago. I'm not sure that was really such an upset. Loyola is pretty damned good. They are 29-5, and earlier this year they beat Florida (another sixth seed in the tournament) in Gainesville.
