"Tonight The Daily Beast re-printed an essay George W. Bush wrote ten years ago for P.O.V. magazine to commemorate his father's birthday titled, 'The First Son.' Just for kicks, we ran it through some of those online writing analyzers."

"Writing Tester graded the above writing sample at a 4th grade level, while Blue Centauri graded it at a 3.5 grade level. Not quite a fourth grader, but more advanced than a third."

I took the first two paragraphs of the article, which were not written by Bush, and plugged it into the analyzers. Writing Tester graded it at a 6th grade level, while Blue Centauri graded it 4.4. Not quite a fifth grader, but more advanced than a fourth.

I took the final paragraphs of The Great Gatsby, an excerpt often cited as the most eloquent prose ever written, and Writing Tester graded it at a 7th grade level. Blue Centauri was slightly more perceptive, grading it 10.7.

I then took the third paragraph of my review of "Nicole" and pasted it in. Blue Centauri graded it 15.96, while writing tester said 12. Oh, that F. Scott Fitzgerald. He was so immature.

I then took a random paragraph from my review of "Exorcist II" and ran it through. Both analyzers scored it 6th grade, thus making Fitzgerald seem like an adult again.
