Stanton is not wasting any time this year
He had two homers on opening day, including one in his first at bat as a Yankee. That guy is a monster. He swung late on the homer in the first inning and still blasted it out of slight to right center. The ball left the bat at about 117 MPH, which is ungodly for an opposite field shot. I think the all-time record launch speed (for any ball, not just opposite field shots) is something like 122.4.
Matt Davidson of the White Sox did him one better with three homers within five innings. Davidson has been in organized ball since 2009, but has been struggling to get out of the minors. The D-Backs gave him a trial a few years ago, and he bombed back to the minors. The White Sox picked him up, but left him in AAA three more years, where his numbers were, frankly, unimpressive. They gave him a shot last year and he clubbed 26 homers, but with only a .260 on base percentage.
A good spring this year earned him the clean-up spot on opening day, and he was up to the task (to say the least).
His teammates added three more dingers, including two by SS Tim Anderson.
